Vintage Bridge Style: an Age, Body and Sex Positive
The Vintage Bridge Style Mission Statement
Vintage Bridge Style is an age/sex/body positive, plus-size, pin-up, bargain-hunter style blog that provides people with inspiring ideas for retro fashion on a bargain-hunter's bohemian budget. Vintage Bridge Style features plus-size outfits for work and play, ideas for accessorizing and make up and hair stylings tips. This site is for bargain hunters of all ages, orientations, and sizes to help them look fabulous, have fun, and empower themselves to be happy, just as they are.
When I started this blog, I had been posting outfit selfies every day on Facebook. However, a little album on my private Facebook account wasn't really dynamic and public enough for what I wanted to do with each picture: showing off my economic and artistic prowess when it comes to a budget wardrobe full of pin up inspired outfits for work and for play. I decided to move everything to a public website and create this DIY bargain hunter, plus-size, pinup style fashion blog.
The thing about this little hobby of mine is, the more I do it, the more I love it. And the more I read other fashion bloggers, especially in the pinup and plus size community, the more effort and love I want to pour into the site because I see what we're doing is more than just showing off cool clothes: we're changing the culture.
When I first began posting, I'd just put up a picture and a little note about where I got the items from. The more I've done this, though, the more I see how explaining how to find items at discount prices, how to style an outfit that's in a pin up style but for work, and how to wear outfits that make you feel happy in your body is a subversive and empowering thing. We receive detrimental subtle and blatant messages often: that we should spend more, weigh less, be more modest, be more homogeneous, generally just be better than we are right now. Sure we are flawed, but that's okay. Also it's okay to not have expensive clothes, wear a size 16, be over age 30 and want to look sexy AF, and to express ourselves in ways that aren't mainstream.
So, without doing anything but being myself and explaining what I wore today, I've ended up doing something rebellious. And I'm happy to do so, and I hope it drives you to do so, and support those who do so, as well.
Thanks for your support along the way!
